Terms of use

Plain terms for a free study site. The important one: we are not affiliated with any examining body, and nothing here is official guidance.

Using this site

Exam Sensei is free to use for personal study. You may take the practice tests, read the guides and share links to any page without asking permission.

No affiliation with examining bodies

Exam Sensei is an independent study resource. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to:

  • The Japan Foundation or Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES), who administer the JLPT
  • The Japan Foundation, who administer JFT-Basic
  • Prometric, who deliver JFT-Basic testing
  • Japan's Immigration Services Agency or any government body

"JLPT", "Japanese-Language Proficiency Test", "JFT-Basic" and related names are used descriptively to identify the exams this site helps you prepare for. Any trademarks remain the property of their owners.

Accuracy, and its limits

We work to keep the material accurate and to mark clearly where a figure is an estimate rather than an official specification. But this is an independent site, exam rules change, and mistakes happen.

In particular:

  • Exam dates, fees, deadlines and eligibility are set by the examining bodies and change. Always confirm on the official sites before registering or paying.
  • Visa requirements are set by Japan's Immigration Services Agency and have changed more than once. Nothing on this site is immigration advice.
  • Kanji, vocabulary and study-hour figures are community estimates. The JLPT has not published an official content specification since the 2010 revision.
  • Practice scores do not predict exam results. The JLPT uses scaled scoring through an unpublished equating process, so no practice percentage can forecast a scaled score.

If you find an error, please tell us at hello@examsensei.online.

No guarantee of results

Using this site does not guarantee that you will pass any exam or meet any visa requirement. Practice material can tell you where your weaknesses are; it cannot sit the exam for you, and we make no promise about any outcome.

Content and copyright

The practice questions, explanations and articles on Exam Sensei are original work written for this site. They are not reproductions of past exam papers, which remain the copyright of the examining bodies.

You are welcome to use the material for your own study, and to quote short extracts with a link back. Please do not republish the question banks or articles wholesale, or present them as your own.

Availability

The site is provided as-is and as-available. We do not promise uninterrupted access, and we may add, change or remove material at any time — including practice tests you are part-way through.

Your saved progress

Test progress is stored in your own browser, not on a server. We cannot recover it for you, and clearing your browser data will delete it. See theprivacy policy for details.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Exam Sensei is not liable for any loss arising from use of this site — including exam fees, travel costs, missed deadlines or visa outcomes. Decisions with money or immigration status attached should rest on official sources, not on a free study site.

Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. The revision date at the top of this page will reflect any change, and continuing to use the site means accepting the current version.
